This is how the International Adolph Kolping Foundation helps:
Help for disadvantaged children in Brazil
|
In a social centre in Conselheiro Mairinck / Paraná Kolping looks after 40 children from disadvantaged families, they fetch them away from the street and protect them against drug abuse and prostitution. The youth also get vocational training and thus have better prospects for their future.
The children are being looked after full-time in a preschool or they get proper school education. Youth who are older get vocational training. The smaller children may play, draw, dance or sing here. Somebody reads out to them and the children are trained to listen and to retell. The older ones acquire a general education and they can also use computers. There are offers for dancing and handicrafts.
During lunch time the children get a warm meal. They also learn something about personal hygiene, they are instructed and guided to brush their teeth regularly and they also have the possibility to take a bath. This is no matter of course for children from the slums who formerly spent their lives during daytime only on the streets.
Also in 2007 the children and youth got help for their school education (before and after classes) in the subjects: PC and data processing, religion, dance and theatre, reading and writing, expression and body control (through the martial arts Capoeira). In cooperation with the Brazilian organization SENAR knowledge was imparted in the following courses: baking, handicraft with bamboo, coffee cultivation, fish farming, sewing and tailoring courses and many others that were made possible through donations from the Adolph-Kolping-Foundation.
But Kolping continues to depend on the important donations since the families of the youth which come from poor circumstances cannot afford the necessary course fees, e.g. to pay for the necessary technical instructors. The monthly fees per student amount to 6 Euro. With this amount the pupils can be trained intensively during 6 months.
