Last year, 35 Kolping Families received laptops, printers and USB sticks thanks to donations from the Christmas campaign, which enabled them to manage their savings groups more professionally.
The computer programmes make it easier for the approximately 700 people who have joined to form savings groups to get an overview of their income and expenditure. Kolping Ecuador had previously trained those responsible for the savings groups in Word and Excel so that the granting and repayment of credits could be recorded digitally.
Many people in Ecuador work as day labourers and are not permanently employed. Therefore, they have no chance of applying for a credit from a bank. At Kolping, they can save small amounts and then apply for a credit from the group’s savings. With the help of the small credit, they can start their small business and cover the costs of an oven, tools or a sewing machine.
The donations come from Kolping members from the Diocesan Association of Munich-Freising, who maintain a close partnership with Ecuador.
