KOLPING INTERNATIONAL mourns the loss of its Kolping brother Monsignor David Kamugisha, who died yesterday at the age of 84 in his home town of Bukoba in Tanzania.
Father David Kamugisha was the founder and former National Praeses of KOLPING Tanzania and deeply influenced the local association with his work. After his training, he brought the Kolping idea from Canada to northern Tanzania, where he took up his first pastorate in 1971. In 1989, together with twelve members, he founded his first Kolping Family in Bukoba. From then on, he worked with great passion on building up the association and social projects. Today, the “Kolping Society of Tanzania” is established in various dioceses throughout the country and is the largest African Kolping association with around 16,000 members. In 2006, Father David received the Special Service Award from KOLPING INTERNATIONAL for his great services.
We will sorely miss him and remember him at Adolph Kolping’s tomb in the Minorites Church in Cologne. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
