Letter from Ukraine

Dear Kolping sisters and brothers,
Dear supporters,

First of all, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your solidarity, your donations, and your support give the people here in Ukraine strength and hope! And you also give strength and confidence to us, who pass on your help. Especially now, after so many months of war, it is not a matter of course that you continue to think of us and accompany us.

Winter continues to pose great challenges for the people. Attacks on energy and water supplies continue, and in many places there are long power outages every day. Without electricity, heating and water are often unavailable. This situation is extremely stressful, especially for older people, families with children, and people with disabilities. We are already without electricity for 17 to 20 hours a day—even here in Chernivtsi in the west of the country, a city that was previously considered relatively safe.
At the same time, we continue to provide concrete assistance: we organize aid transports with urgently needed goods such as generators, heaters, warm blankets, food, and medicine. On the ground, we also provide psychosocial support to families, internally displaced persons, and particularly vulnerable people. With each passing month of war, the psychological strain increases.

Thanks to your donations, we were able to organize two aid transports to the Mykolaiv region on January 16 and 17, 2026. For these missions, we traveled around 1,600 kilometers and spent a total of more than 24 hours on the road. We were able to deliver around five tons of food, hygiene items, emergency power generators, and field stoves to two remote villages that have received little or no humanitarian aid to date.
The situation for the people there is extremely difficult. Many live in terrible conditions, often without electricity or water. At the same time, the people welcomed us with great dignity, openness, and gratitude. Despite all the hardships, they try to cope with their everyday lives.

The number of refugees is also rising again. More people are currently arriving here, mainly from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other severely affected regions. Many have fled several times, are exhausted and traumatized, and are facing ruin. They need not only material aid but also support, guidance, and human kindness.

Unfortunately, we still do not see any light at the end of the tunnel in terms of an end to the war. And winter is harsher, the power outages are more intense. Therefore, I would like to ask you, dear Kolping brothers and sisters, dear supporters, to continue to stand by us.
Your donations enable us to provide quick and flexible help where the need is greatest and where little other help is available. We can use them to provide people with the bare necessities: warmth, electricity, food, and the certainty that they have not been forgotten.
Every bit of support helps them survive. It enables us to maintain aid transports, accompany families through the winter, and give people hope in these difficult times. Emergency power generators, canned food, sweets for the children, bandages, and power banks are most urgently needed.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your trust, your loyalty, and your humanity. Without you, this aid would not be possible!

With warm regards from Ukraine
on behalf of the entire Kolping Ukraine team

Yours
Vasyl Savka
