Peru: State aid for Kolping farmers

Kolping Peru promotes the agricultural development of its members and is very well networked. Kolping members benefit from this and receive training and tips from top-class experts.

For example, a training course was recently held in Bambamarca for Kolping members, in which almost all members were able to take part. A representative of the Ministry of Agriculture reported on the support that the state provides for organized groups that practice agriculture and livestock farming – precisely the Kolping target group. As the members in Peru live in the countryside, this opens up new prospects and funding opportunities for small farmers. The prerequisite for this is the creation of a business plan. The regional coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gilberto Zavala, encouraged the Kolping Families: “We are convinced that with our experience we will be able to finance the business plans of those Kolping Families in Bambamarca who are willing to participate in the project.” Kolping supports the small farmers in the creation of business ideas and plans, which are examined by the Ministry and can be subsidized.

A member of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation informed the Kolping members at a virtual meeting that the state finances, for example, reforestation projects, the preservation of wetlands or infiltration ditches, provided the land is suitable. Shortly afterwards, the audit for the construction of a reservoir took place on the land of the Kolping Family Santa Rosa. The result is still pending.

Another focus of Kolping is the promotion of women in rural areas. The aim is for them to generate their own income as small entrepreneurs, for example by producing hats, clothing or carpets. Here too, Kolping helps the women to apply for state support so that they can purchase modern tools and looms and increase their production and income.
