Tanzania: National Convention Sets Important Course for the Future

At the end of April, delegates from the Kolping Society of Tanzania gathered at the Kolping Hotel in Bukoba for the National Convention, representing all regions of the country. Representatives of the Kolping Families, together with guests from the Church and government, discussed the future development of the Association and key steps to strengthen KOLPING’s work in Tanzania.

General Secretary Dr. Markus Demele attended the convention on behalf of KOLPING INTERNATIONAL. The focus was on the adoption of a new constitution and the election of a new National Board of Directors. This laid the groundwork for further developing the association’s work in the coming years and sustainably strengthening Kolping’s structures in Tanzania.

New National Board elected

The following were elected to the new National Board of Directors for the term 2026 to 2029: Prof. Deogratias Rutatora as President, Laulian Ndyanabo Kanonko as Vice President, George Manyaki as National Secretary, Sarah Hageze as Women’s Representative, Ambrose Lugezi as Youth Representative, Imelda Magesa as Treasurer, and Fr. Ansgarius Shumbusho as National Praeses.

Following the National Convention, an executive board workshop was held to discuss strategic planning for the association’s future work. In particular, the promotion of Kolping Families, the involvement of young people, and the further development of social and economic projects were discussed.

Dedicated volunteers take on responsibility

“The National Convention was a very important event for the future of KOLPING in Tanzania. I am grateful that such dedicated volunteers in volunteer work have agreed to take on responsibility for the rapidly growing association with more than 13,000 members,” explained Markus Demele.

The convention made it clear how vibrant and committed Kolping’s work in Tanzania is. Delegates from across the country shared their experiences and perspectives and together provided important impetus for the association’s future development.
