05.07.2017: On the death of Cardinal Meisner

"We commemorate him with great thankfulness". As former Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Meisner was at the same time Protector of the International Kolping Society


Kolping International is mourning for Cardinal Joachim Meisner who passed away this Wednesday morning aged 83. As former Archbishop of Cologne, Cardinal Meisner was at the same time Protector of the International Kolping Society and thereby in a special way also responsible for the worldwide Catholic social association.

“25 years Cardinal Meisner acquired great merits in this function. The highlight was the process of beatification of Adolph Kolping which Cardinal Meisner accompanied and promoted in an extraordinary way. We commemorate him with great thankfulness. May he rest in peace”, says Msgr. Ottmar Dillenburg, General Praeses of the International Kolping Society, on the occasion of the news of the demise.

As the Domradio reports, Meisner “passed away peacefully” during his holiday in Bad Füssing”. Tonight at 18.30h the Cologne Archbishop of many years will be commemorated in a mourning service in the Cologne Cathedral. Domradio will broadcast the church service live on the internet.
