Kenya: Fight against hunger

Rich harvest through planting sacks also in periods of drought

Time and again there are severe droughts in Kenya. Every drop of water is extremely precious. To be able to respond to this water scarcity in a better way, Kolping Kenya in cooperation with a local organization wants to start using innovative planting sacks.

In this special bag, up to 100 seedlings can be grown – like spinach, lettuce and onions. What is so special about this method is the fact that only little water is needed. Furthermore, the bags can be put directly next to the house – there is no need to walk to the field anymore. When the seedlings are big enough, they are transplanted.

To start with, Kolping Kenya wants to train 85 families during five workshops accordingly and then distribute the first planting sacks.
