An anniversary was celebrated by Kolping members on the Indonesian island of Sumba at the end of the year: On December 4, 1994 Redemptorist priest Hermann May from the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (CSsR) founded the first two Kolping Families in Katiku Loku and Bondo Kodi on the island of Sumba. They continue to exist today and met to celebrate the anniversary of their foundation on December 8, 2019. Joined by many guests, representatives of neighboring dioceses, policy-makers and other NGOs, they celebrated mass followed by other festivities. The result of the work of Kolping Indonesia is quite impressive: meanwhile there are twenty Kolping Families in the dioceses of Ruteng (Flores island), Kupang (western part of Timor island) and Weetebula (Sumba island) with currently 520 members.
Project work is also impressive: 1,250 wells were built, 129,000 tree seedlings were planted, and 1,200 girls were accommodated in seven Kolping asrams to be able to go to school. 1,000 young people were trained, and many farmers, fishermen and craftsmen were given better tools to do a better job.
