Benin: Successful literacy campaign

In 2018, KOLPING started a literacy campaign in Benin that is going from strength to strength. In 15 centers, 345 people were taught, with a success rate of over 95 percent.

In early 2020, 45 more training sites were opened and teachers trained in five dioceses before the pandemic broke out and partially interrupted activities. More than 1,000 men and women participated in the courses last year. The success rate was 92 percent. For former graduates of the basic course, another course was also offered, which takes two years and deepens the knowledge acquired.

These courses are urgently needed in the West African country. Only about 40 percent of the population can currently read adequately.
