Ukraine: A new Center for Mediation in Ivano-Frankivsk

A new Kolping mediation center was opened in the Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk at the end of last year – it is the only center of this type in the area. The inauguration was preceded by intensive negotiations with the town administration, further training and the development of a concept.

The concept of mediation as a form of conflict resolution is hardly known in Ukraine. It is therefore all the more surprising that this Kolping center became a place for many people to turn to within the first few months. The advisory service is available to all people irrespective of their origin or religion. Most people visit the center to resolve conflicts within their family.

“The opening of the mediation center shows once more the pioneering work Kolping is doing“, says Vasyl Savka, managing director of Kolping Ukraine.  “Kolping Ukraine is trying very hard to respond to the challenges in our society by running universities for senior citizens or offering activities for the disabled or for refugees.”
