Old kingdom striving for balance and harmony

The symbols of the signs in the South Korean flag express what the Koreans long for: The implied yin and yang embody the “philosophy of balance and harmony of opposites”. This is understandable in view of the eventful history of the old kingdom and the division of the country into North and South Korea. After the Korean War, the South Korean government did everything to turn South Korea into a leading industrial nation that exports a lot abroad and is now an attractive immigration destination for other Asians.
