Sri Lanka

Formation and social integration to strengthen the civil society

In Sri Lanka, the percentage of the poor has decreased considerably in the past years. In 2013 6.7 percent of the population lived below the national poverty line. A decade ago this was 22.7 percent. The high youth unemployment also causes worries. To secure peace in Sri Lanka, above all the development in the northern and eastern regions of the country must be promoted where many people in the former civil war areas live at subsistence level.
