Chile: Help for Fire Victims

Since February 2, people living near the capital of Chile in the coastal towns of Viña del Mar and Quilpué have been suffering from the fires. Many people had to leave their homes at night and have lost their houses, fields and livestock. So far, at least 122 people have died, over 3,000 houses have been destroyed and more than 26,000 hectares of land have been burnt. Kolping Chile has been providing help to the victims of the fire disaster from the very beginning.

The solidarity is huge. Kolping members are helping families who have lost everything, organizing accommodation and supplying them with what they need the most. Kolping is active on site and provides emergency aid. The distribution of donations is organized efficiently so that they reach the families that have been hit the hardest as quickly as possible. The Kolping Family of Pichidegua is also collecting food for the victims in the Valparaíso region. In doing so, Kolping Chile benefits from the experience of previous disasters such as earthquakes, pandemics, floods and fires, when Kolping was able to help in a spirit of solidarity.

The extraordinary heatwave in Chile has led to one of the most devastating fire disasters in the country’s history. It is already being compared to the large earthquake of 2010, which killed more than 300 people.

Please help the victims of the fire disaster! Support Kolping Chile with your donation: Kolping is distributing water, food and blankets, among other things, to provide people with the bare necessities. With a donation of 20 euros you help us finance 20 water canisters (5 liters). An emergency package containing food and sanitary products costs 70 euros.
